Como uno de los más temidos en el mar, el Tiburón Martillo al igual que otros escualos son consumidos gastronomicamente en pinchos y filetes en restaurantes y kioskos de Puerto Rico. ¡Por cierto es muy sabroso preparado al ajillo!.
Así nos encontramos a este ejemplar en la excibición de pescados y criaturas marinas del Festival del Pescao de Puerto Real, Cabo Rojo. Este festival se celebra anualmente para la primera semana de abril en la Villa Pesquera de Puerto Real. Esta villa es una de las más importantes de Puerto Rico ya que genera 1,111,320* libras de Pescao al año.
Este año se estrena la nueva marina en Puerto Real, Marina Pescaderia, que consta con 93 muelles, bombas de gasolina, Restaurante, Mini Market y Tiendas de Buceo y Pesca. Un proyecto innovador para esta área y de mucha necesidad para la vida nauta del área Oeste.
El Festival del Pescao es una actividad organizada por la comunidad de Puerto Real e integra a la misma con el resto del pueblo de Cabo Rojo y sus visitantes. El Festival es amenizado por orquesta y grupos musicales del patio con su atractivo principal que son las diferentes degustaciones de platos costeros. Estos son preparados en restaurantes, kioskos y vecinos pescadores de la comunidad que aprovechan para vender sus platos caseros, elaborados con el más fresco marisco de la pesca del día.

The hammerhead shark is one of the most feared predators in the ocean. However just like other sharks they are often eaten as filet or on skewers around the coastal towns of Puerto Rico. As a matter of fact, they are pretty delicious in a garlic sauce!
So that’s how we come across this magnificent example at the Exhibition of Fish & Marine Life at the Festival del Pescao in Puerto Real, Cabo Rojo. This yearly festival is celebrated the first week of April en the Villa Pesquera of Puerto Real. This fishing village is one Puerto Rico’s most important, producing 1,111,320* lbs of fish per year.
This year’s event celebrated the inauguration of Puerto Real’s new marina, Marina Pescaderia, which boasts 93 docks, gasoline pumps, a restaurant, mini market, fishing & Scuba stores. It’s an innovative project for the area and much needed boost for nautical life on the west coast.
El Festival del Pescao is an activity organized by the community of Puerto Real integrated with the people of general Cabo Rojo and it’s visitors. The festival has live music and the main attraction is tastings of typical coastal dishes prepared by local restaurants, kiosks, and fishermen who offer the up their freshest and best.
